Working From Home – Taking Small Risks

If you ask most people risking our money is not something that all of us can do with the same ease. For various reasons including past experience and even just the reality of having limited funds, people sometimes really are reluctant to gamble with their money especially if it’s in a business in its infancy.

It is wise to consider your situation when determining if you can take a small risk or not. However it is really true that many times unless you can ‘afford’ to take the risk you will have nothing but the same-old-same-old. So you really nee to ponder that thought. Living life in general is taking a risk as you never know what the outcome of anything will be, including just walking out the door.

It probably stands to reason then that biting off your risks in small chunks will likely work best for most people. Where we are referring to a home business opportunity, you can really get an educated guess as to whether or not it is a wise investment. You can read all about the company on their website and read reviews from others. You can contact the company with questions.

Although reviews are useful for most things, you must consider that there are a lot of haters out there and just plain ignorant people who may try to damage a program or product just because they didn’t like it or because they don’t want to see someone else succeed. That they didn’t like it or do anything to make it work has almost nothing to do with the product. This is why you should read many reviews in different places if you are going to use this method to do your due diligence.

… and of course the other side, keeping in mind that the website is going to sing the praises and overlook things that are less than stellar about the program or product. However keep in mind particularly with affiliate programs and products where the financial risk is extremely small, that it won’t be the end of the world if you make a mistake. Almost 100% of the opportunities in this genre have no contracts beyond month-to-month. The risk is low in every respect plus how much will you learn.

If you happen to lose a little money, don’t let it stop you from trying again. If you have to let enough time go by, so that you feel that you can afford another possible small loss, take as much time as you need. As part of this effort maybe next time decide to invest more time and effort to make something work out. There are very few things that just blossom on their own – even the top earning programs. Give it all time, effort and a little money and you’ll be in a better place than you where when you first started out.

Building a Home Business – Learn How to Do Things Yourself

Most of the time it may be convenient to have someone else do things that you are not sure how to do. You may find, however it is much better in the long run to learn how to do things for yourself. After all we are not talking about building a space ship (“rocket science”). We are merely talking about very basic technical things for your website or your membership program.

take-control

What about if you could afford to hire technical support to do them for you, well it may initially save you a little time but over time you will not be as well off as if you learned how to do whatever needs to be done yourself. Somewhere in your program, in your hosting account, or in a search engine, you will find directions on how to do just about anything you need to do. Start using Google, look at ‘YouTube’ there’s a ‘how to’ video for just about everything you could possibly need to know now.

If you just get used to palming off anything you do not know how to do, then you will never learn how to run your business completely. It’s that simple, if you pay someone else to do it you will never learn. Only if you have a high volume of work and little time, then it is understandable but otherwise make an attempt to keep learning.

If you are lucky enough to be able to afford support it would be wise to ask your support to write some simple instructions for you (and pay extra if necessary) when they do your work, that way you can keep business continuity but learn what to do if the problem happens again. This way you are not tied to paying for support and never quite knowing what is going on. To really be in control of your own business you should actually know how everything in your business is done, whether or not you have support. You should have written procedures that anyone can follow, ‘just in case’.

If you have not been happy in your career so far, you will have a great time calling yourself ‘the boss’. Maybe you will also enjoy procrastinating as long as you can if you have nobody to push your work off on; but you can carry this too far. You being the boss are the one who is responsible for your business whether you have support or not.

You never can tell what may happen — you may come up with some new innovations on how to do things in a more efficient, and more accurate way. You must learn how things are done presently before you could see a different perspective where you may improve the procedure. Don’t forget to update your written procedures when you change anything throughout all stages of your home business’ development.

Working at Home – Is Information Really Power?

Well – yes, information is power but only if you use that information to do something. Knowledge I think we can agree is a good thing but just having knowledge for the sake of it, does not really do much to help anyone. There are many people, and I include myself in this, that never feel they know enough to actually do something with what they have learned. They just keep reading and learning and reading and learning, at some point they have to get off the knowledge bus and take action.

information

This whole scenario is sometimes referred to as ‘paralysis by analysis’. What is needed here is a splash of self-confidence to feel that you are worthy to take what you have learned and do something useful with it. This action in itself lets you believe that you have valuable information and that you do understand it well enough to share it in some way.

There may of course be other factors at play when someone just can’t get past the learning curve, other than lack of self-confidence. It may be a mechanism that you employ purposely (albeit perhaps subconsciously) to keep you from having to take the next step in your progression, fearing failure possibly. Maybe you really don’t want to make a commitment to something like a home business?

You find it intriguing to think about (daydream) but when you actually think it is time to get started developing your business, spending money and time, you will always find some other reason that you can’t move forward. Are you caught in a situation where you constantly listen to other people around you who may be totally risk averse and will always point out the negatives in your crazy idea that will obviously fail. If you listen to the people who do not have the courage to take that extra step then your idea will always just remain a possibility, but you will never find out whether you would have succeeded or failed.

One thing that may be helpful in moving past your dilemma (after you admit you have a problem), would be to write things down, make lists or pros and cons ideas, what ever it takes. They say you are much more likely to actually do something if you write it down and read it periodically. In fact don’t just read it – actually meditate on it for a few minutes, let it become embedded within your natural thought patterns. Just read the next 3 questions and see what springs to mind (only as an exercise) 1) What does this involve if I actually do something? 2) What would it be like to have a business running at home?  3) Who are some of the people that could benefit if I share what I have learned with them?

While you would think someone with a bank of information may make a great teacher and could start a team that would collaborate to build something, it would also be perfectly acceptable to just use the information to do your own thing. The point is ‘Just do it’.
